KiwiBop Postcard Pals: December 2016.

 I actually got these postcards on Monday, but I kept forgetting to take pictures of them, so I am just writing this now. But I never got the postcards for last months and I figured it was because I was not at school for the past two weeks, so maybe this one is supposed to be for last month? I'm not too sure; I'll just have to wait and see if I get another package before the end of this month and then I will know for sure. :)

My preschool keikis LOVE seeing this envelope! They are always excited to get this subscription because they are so curious as to what they will see! :)

My keikis LOVED this one...they asked a lot of questions about outer space and we ended up making up stories of what we would see and do if we were outer space!

My keikis LOVE crocodiles! The animals that they are always talking about are the crocodile, shark, and the manta ray. Ever week we have chapel with the residence pastor here and part of chapel is when he brings out his "friends (puppets)"...one is a bird named Birdie and the other is a crocodile named Crocky...so yes, they are always talking about Crocky...and so when they saw this postcard with a crocodile, that was it! They all wanted to play "Crocky" and sing all the crocodile songs that we knew and make up songs about crocodiles. I love it!

I love these postcards because most likely than not they have nothing to do with the theme that we have for the month....but that is one thing you have to realize as a teacher (or anyone who is around kids) you have to be super flexible and just go with the flow. I do have a lesson plan and what should happen that day...but 75% of the time we deviate from what the original plan was. And I love it! With these postcards, it creates opportunities for the children to come up with different creative games, activities, and imaginative plays! I love it! Each postcard that they saw brings up questions and different activities ideas!

I can go on and on about the different things that you can use these postcards for...I'm just saying I think that they are a good thing. :)

 Oh okay, I know that the title of this post says "November" but I believe that this is the November packet. I was wonder where my November postcards where, but then things were super crazy busy for me so I didn't get to write them to ask them..but then I think that they were busy  as well so maybe that is why they sent it so late?!  My darling keikis were very excited to see that our month of Kiwibop educational postcards came! They did very good at sitting still during circle time as we went through our routine and finally open the envelope that everyone had a chance to hold during our learning session.

The first postcard that was in the stack was this amazing postcard "from" our Kiwibop Postcard Pal, Rocco. This is a Seaglass Carousel that can be found in Manhattan, New York City. It's a fairly new carousel; it opened to the public in August 2015. How cool is that!? To be able to be in a seaglass carousel....it's even open at night! How gorgeous would that be?!

Kiwibop postcard pal Skylar "sent" us this postcard from North America. This is a luna moth and it's one of the largest moths in North America. They are "easy to spot with its light green wings that are as wide as a smartphone."

Postcard pal, Tica decided to "send" us a black-cheeked love bird. "You may hear their loud bird calls before you see them because they talk in loud shrieks and high-pitched chattering." These love birds do not like being alone, they get very sad if they are not.

Bo, our last postcard friend of the month, "sent" us a postcard telling us about the octopus. Did you know that the "octopus has three hearts. They can also grab things with their tentacle, similar to an elephant's trunk." How awesome is that?!

And those were our four postcards this month! The children were really fascinated by the first postcard and asked me repeated to tell me about the carousel. They also liked the love bird one because there are times where we see parrots here in Hawai'i...and so they were telling me stories about the birds that they have seen. It was super cute. They loved all the postcards and we sat there a long time just talking about what we were looking at. I loved how these postcards encourage "story talking" with the children...and I also like how they are learning about things outside their "inner world."

 What a fun surprise! I didn't realize that I was going to get my next four postcards from Kiwibop so soon after the welcome packet! But I did! The kids also got a kick about having more mail for them. I hope that they won't be disappointed tomorrow when another one does not come in! But today we had fun again looking at more postcards!

Our postcard pal, Kit tells us that this pixie frog is the second largest amphibian in the world. These are a type of bullfrogs that live in Africa and can grow up to 10 inches long and weigh up to 4 pounds! They are much too heavy to jump!

This postcard Geary "sent" us is of the Friendship7 space capsule that orbited the Earth in the early 1960s three times before is safely splashed down in the ocean near the Bermuda.

Carl "sent" us a picture postcard of The Leaning Tower of Texas. "If you ever drive along old U.S. Route 66 east of Groom, Texas, you'll find this learning water tower hard to miss. But what caused it to lean?"

Our postcard pal, Scoot, send us this postcard of of these mudstones called the Moeraki Boulders that are found along a stretch of Koekohe Beach on the coast of New Zealand. They are almost perfectly round and very large--even up to 7 feet wide and they weigh over 22,000 pounds each!

New Subscription: Kiwibop Postcard Pals.

This isn't exactly a new subscription for me, however it is new for my preschool keiki! I had subscribed my DollGirl to this subscription about a year ago, and she loved it and I told myself that when the new school year rolled around, I was going to subscribe my classroom to this subscription since it was a fun, educational subscription! Since I had an open account with them with my subscription for my DollGirl, I was able to get a discount on the subscription when I opened one for my classroom, and since my school reimbursed me the cost, I didn't have to pay for this one! My welcome packet came when I was vacationing in Maui, and so I saw this packet waiting for me when I came into school today and I had a few kids that came super early in the morning and they were able to open it with me and we explored what was inside!

The welcome kit came in a bright green envelope with the Kiwibop log printed on it. And I believe that this is how the monthly postcards come in, except smaller, since this is the welcome kit.

 The back of the envelope showed the group of "friends" that Kiwibop designed to "send" the postcards from around the world. Aren't they so fun looking!

The first "card" that I pulled out was this fun activity card. You cut out the fun glasses and mustache and glue them on a stick and you have photo props! How fun! :)

A fun card that introduces some of the fun characters that you will "meet" and get to know throughout this postcard subscription!

On the back of the card it has a nice welcome message that tells you about what this subscription is about.

I love how they also added some stickers! Who doesn't like stickers! I might have to add this cute little sticker set to the birthday box since there isn't enough stickers for all my keiki!

Now on to the fun [free] postcards! :)

The postcard came in this logo stamped brown sleeve. [I'm already really excited, even more! I see an elephant! :)]

The first of the four postcards is titled, "Out of this World Junk." Aww, this one makes me sad! This is basically a postcard that tells about the litter that is up in space. It says, "Can you imagine trying to cross a busy road with your eyes closed? Putting a spaceship into orbit without being hit by space junk is just almost as hard!" On the back of the card, it gives more details about the front of the postcard. This postcard is "from" our Kiwibop friend, Geary.

The second postcard is "from" our postcard friend Rocco and it is of The Gateway Arch at the Jefferson Mational Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, Missouri. Did you know that it is one of the ost visited tourist attractions in the world! :)

Our postcard pal, Niko, "sent" us a postcard that baffled the keiki! This is a postcard of the beginnings of what chocolate is! I had a jar of chocolate chips that I like to keep in the classroom for special occasions and when I showed the kids this card and asked them to guess what it was I had answer sof "corn," "pineapple," and even " ice-cream!" and when I told them I was going to give them a hint, I gave each one of them a chocolate chip...they still didn't get that this was a picture of chocolate in it's raw form! They still don't believe it! *laughs*

I saved my favorite postcard for last. I LOVE elephants and I was excited to see that this postcard came in the package! :) Our postcard pal, Tica, informed us that "the African bush elephant lives in the savannahs or grasslands of Africa. They can grow to be as tall as 13 feet and weight up to 11 tons-that's over 22, 000 pounds!)..."
